Rep Power: 8 | | Online Identity Searching and Tracking Tools Reputation management is a too hot topic to be left out of discussion here, especially for your own names. If you love searching for your name (either out of vanity or for business purposes), you will enjoy playing with the following online identity searching and tracking tools:
1. Twitter Search (previously known as Summize) searches for your name mentions at Twitter. To track your reputation there you can either subscribe via feed or get email updates through the service called TweetBeep.
2. Twing lets you find out what people say about you throughout forums and discussion boards. You can choose to search forum posts or topics there.
3. Blog search engines: Google Blog Search : play with Google Blog Search sorting options (”sort by relevance | date) and advanced searching options (inpostauthor:” Author Name“, inblogtitle: name) (more…) |

Rep Power: 8 | | Build Relationships with Bloggers via Facebook & Social Networks Being a search marketer and avid link builder, yesterday I ran across a blog which was perfect for contributing a quality post to on behalf of client, so I looked around the blog to find their contact information to build a relationship with the blogger.
Building a trusted relationship with a blogger; exchanging emails, discussing the world of blogging, giving a little SEO advice and asking to contribute a post, is a wonderful way to provide the blogger with branded yet original content, while also developing a connection which can last for years.
When looking for the blogger’s contact information, I was surprised to find no contact form or email address, but I did find a way to contact them in a manner much more personal and intimate than sending an email to an inbox which is probably already cluttered. Instead, the blogger listed his Facebook and Twitter accounts as ways to be contacted. (more…) |

Rep Power: 8 | | Live Search Webmaster Center Revs Up Its Backlinks Checker It looks like Microsoft is revving up its Live Search Webmaster Center to put it back in shape after releasing the tool out of beta. Aside from the new features that we covered a couple of days ago, the Webmaster Center tool is reviving its Backlink checker to give more information on referring links.
Of course, we all know how important these information are for webmasters trying to work their way to the top of the Live Search SERPs for their sites targeted keyword. Knowing the quality of links that your site gets would enable you to assess their importance and how valuable these links are to your site’s ranking. (more…) |

Rep Power: 8 | | Relieve Googlebot of Unnecessary Work I have already looked into ways to increase crawl rate for those who suspect their site is worth more frequent bot visits. However from time to time I come across forum threads where webmasters complain that (Google) bot seems too active at their pages eating too much bandwitch.
So here I am listing links to those complaints and possible solutions that might help to handle the situation (more…) |

Rep Power: 8 | | The SEO Economy: A Search Marketing Recruiter’s Perspective Sometimes it seems that you cannot go a day without reading a story about the economic challenges faced by our country. On one day the headline news is the declining housing market, the next it is a debate about if we are or are not in a recession, and the next it is about the latest financial company that needs to be bailed out. But what does that mean if you are a search marketer?
I thought I would take a moment to give you a view on the pulse of the search marketing industry from a search marketing recruiter’s perspective. As a forewarning, this analysis involves no economic indices, advanced algorithms, or other quantitative analysis or statistics. What it does include however is a picture of the search marketing industry based on the view of those of us that are out there in the market talking to job seekers and hiring managers every day.
In the course of an average week my team and I speak to hundreds of internet marketing professionals and hiring managers. We speak on a number of topics: the economy, new SEO project initiatives, their family life, the previous night’s Olympics competitions, the latest news from Google, and more. What I am not hearing right now though is that job seekers are having a hard time finding work, or that companies have stopped hiring. My overall takeaways are very positive. The hiring managers we speak to are looking to hire SEM/ SEO professionals, or they are fully staffed and as busy as can be. On the other side of the fence, right now any good search marketing candidate starting a job search is not likely to be on the market long. (more…) |

Rep Power: 8 | | IM Charity Party & The Children’s Hospital If you haven’t heard, we are having a party on Monday the 18th to benefit two very worthy charities.* We are going to split the proceeds from the event 50/50 between the Leukemia & Lymphoma Societyand The Children’s Hospital.* I’d like to tell you a bit about why we are supporting the Children’s Hospital.
I’m hoping this post will make you want to support the Children’s Hospital, too.
I am the proud father of three beautiful little children, a four year old daughter and twin two year old boys.* All three had a pretty rough start, each spending weeks in a hospital newborn intensive care unit (NICU).* Of course we have a huge debt of gratitude to the doctors & nurses who provided their care, but also to the generous people who funded the facilities and research that made their care possible.
Our first encounter with a NICU came on January 2nd, 2004.* My wife was 34 weeks pregnant when her water broke on New Year’s Eve.* We had no indication that there was any reason to worry before that; in fact, my wife had just seen her doctor and everything was fine.* My daughter was born late in the day on the 1st and we were told that she would probably be OK – 6 weeks premature is not considered extremely early and she was big (5 ½ lbs.) for her gestational age.* The only clear problem was that her breathing was labored and difficult.* As the night wore on, Lauren’s breathing problems were not getting better so the doctor recommended transporting her to the local NICU.* One of my clearest memories from the night was that my first decision as a father was to sign the paper transferring her over to the hospital downtown. Rep Power: 0 | | Blogs are different from static sites: they are more complex living organisms - communities of people who share thoughts - in contrast to a static source of information. Therefore it actually isn’t that easy to measure a blog’s popularity and power. Plenty of factors may come into play:
* overall traffic;
* sites linking in;
* pages/ individual posts citing it;
* the level of readers’ participation (i.e. comments);
* regular readers (i.e. subscribers);
* rate of growth;
* content quality and freshness; etc.
